Newark Arts Festival 2025
Craft & Convos: A Collective Painting + Design Experience
The workshop opened with a grounding icebreaker and a discussion around the colors and memories that embody joy. A hands-on lesson in color theory and the elements of art helped participants explore how line, shape, texture, and color affect visual storytelling. With guided exercises, attendees mix custom “joy colors” and experiment with various tools and textures before diving into the collaborative piece.
The group worked together to design a shared composition—either abstract or representational—before collectively painting the canvas while music filled the space. Optional role rotations and layering exercises invite participants to respond to each other’s marks, fostering dialogue and unity.
